FLX Racing Wins Again At Kershaw (kinda)

FLX Racing drivers Paul Dubinsky and Mark Masters were back at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina for another SCCA SeDIV ECR race and, as usual this year, it rained. The race, held on Memorial Day Monday, started at 1:30 on a very wet and very slippery track.

Mark Masters started started 5th on the grid in a field of 39 cars for the 90 minute enduro. After surviving a first turn spin by the 3rd place starter, the #88 Mazda RX7 driven by Chris Brubaker, Masters got to work. By lap 3, the #73 Acura Integra GSR was in the lead and going away. For the next 30 minutes, Masters extended his lead.

With the rain over and the track drying, the plan was to leave Masters on the track driving the #73 on intermediate rain tires until the second place #18 Mazda RX7 running on dry tires started to close the interval. At 35 minutes, the interval started to close and the #73 was brought in for a tire change and a driver change.

Finishing driver, Paul Dubinsky, climbed in and left the pits with a 30 second lead over the now second place #86 Mazda RX7 with driver Jeff Hill relieving starting driver Kent Thompson. Dubinsky stretched the lead over #86 to 42 seconds before taking the checker, setting the fastest lap of the race along the way.

Now the bad news. After the race, Timing and Scoring claimed that the FLX Racing #73 Integra GSR was slightly more than 3 seconds short on its mandatory 5 minute fueling stop. The ECR Series rules require that each car make a mandatory 5 minute pit stop. The penalty for pitting 3 seconds less than 5 minutes (which had no impact on the outcome of the race) was a Draconian two lap penalty, the ECR Series Administrator seeing no reason to exercise discretion.

The team grumbled, opened a beer and toasted it's philosophy "Don't beg. But if you're going to beg, beg for something that's worth something." Here, Here! We won and they know it.

FLX Racing's next race is an 8 hour enduro at Virginia International Raceway on June 13-14 driving the previous #73 Mazda RX7. The #73 Acura Integra GSR next races at Lowe's Motor Speedway on June 21-22.

The Divx codec creates video files that are about 50% the size of
the same mpg video file and that results in much faster downlaods.
